The King and Queen of The Netherlands Attend Keti Koti Commemoration Event
King Willem-Alexander of The Netherlands and Queen Maxima of The Netherlands attend the Keti Koti (“broken chains” in the Surinamese language Sranantongo) commemoration event at the National Slavery Monument in the Oosterpark on July 1, 2023 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the Netherlands’ abolition of slavery. During the event, the King gave a speech during which he officially apologised for the country’s colonial past.
